OMG I have so much to talk about and have no idea where to start , see this is what happens when I am gone for too long smh. But, I will start with what I'm most excited about my Comedy show "WTF Wednesdays," that I produce and host EVERY week turned 1 on July 15.
I moved to LA solely for acting, while here to make the ends meet I worked at a Comedy Club called the "Comedy Union." I have always loved to make people laugh, but, it was working at the Union listening to comedians go up every night that I realized my own new found love for stand-up comedy.
In LA it is really difficult to get stage time, you either need to be seasoned, have friends in big places or have money to pay for open mic's every day. I could choose to sit around and wait for opportunities to help me get better or I could take matters into my own hands. Well I have a problem with waiting for things to come to me so I knew I needed to create a platform, where I could perform while getting better at my new love.
I created first an Open Mic night, hosted by myself , where comedians could come and try out their new material in a comfortable and creative space , but that wasn't enough. Open Mics are not always filled with the best talent and I knew I needed to be around comics that would make me push myself to get better. So I went a step further , and created my own booked show as well "WTF Wednesdays". Multiple people told me I should wait until Ive been doing comedy longer, that I wasn't ready to do my own show, or maybe I should do a monthly show instead of weekly. But those people didn't know Jasmin Leigh, I have not only been consistently producing my own comedy show for a year but I did everything on my own. I have booked every comic, employed a house DJ who performs every week and made sue there were butts in the seats to laugh. WTF stage has housed a variety of comics from newer comedians to, headliners who tour the world , we have had comics from well known shows such as "BALLERS," "Family Time," "Uncle Buck" "The CarMichaels" and more.
I always have good ideas but its rare that I follow through with them a year later Im so pleased to say that WTF Wednesday's is still going strong and we have no intentions on slowing down. Do not let somebody tell yo what you can't do or what your good enough to do this show is hard as hell to run but it has made me a better comic and business woman.
I want to thank you each and every person who has hit my stage I couldn't have done it without you guys !!!!!
